Sneak Peek Sunday

Sneak Peek Sunday is a blog hop where you can sit back, enjoy your coffee, and read six paragraphs of the blogger’s work-in-progress, or published work. It’s a great way to get a little “peek” and maybe find a book you want to put in your “to be read” pile. 🙂 Click the links in the sidebar to follow my blog, or on Twitter or Facebook! Thanks for stopping by, and have a fabulous day!!

This week, I am offering a sneek peek from my first 1Night Stand, Senator, Mine,  published by Decadent Publishing. After you’ve read it, please click on the banner above and go to the list of authors participating this Sunday!

Eleanor adjusted her pack on her shoulders and stood at the curb, waiting to cross the Via dei Fori Imperiali. The crumbled ruins of the Roman Forum spread out on the opposite side of the road like shell fragments scattered along the shore after a violent storm. She clutched her newly acquired treasure and joined the horde of tourists sweeping across the road in a giant swarming wave as drivers tried to skim past without hitting anyone. People, pointing and posing alongside the entrance to the ruins, clamored and chatted.

For a moment, she wished she had stayed longer in the little shop. At least it was quiet. And much cooler. She closed her eyes and squeezed the ring, taking comfort in its smoothness. Darius. She’d have to research the senator when she got back to the hotel. For now, she had to figure out if she could go through with her hasty 1Night Stand commitment. A night to remember forever was the promise, but was it the right thing to do? She hadn’t expected a match to happen so quickly.

She turned to face the past and stepped onto the stone walkway that meandered through the ruins. The Forum sprawled before her. Rome, its glory crumbled around her like old dreams, beckoned her closer. Her relationship with Peter hadn’t lasted long enough to make its mark on the world. Not a pebble remained of their shared glory. Had it been a mirage? Or a mistake? To invest so much in something so new felt out of place here in the Eternal City.

Yet the powerful Rome had fallen, too, and left its secrets scattered along the Via Sacra. If such a nation couldn’t stand the test of time, how could she expect love to last past a fleeting moment? What right had she to demand more?

Her time in Rome had become a therapy session.

A laughing couple jostled her as they passed, oblivious. The woman twirled a single red rose. The 1Night Stand encounter was just what she needed. No one would ever have to know.

Christmas Wishes Blog Hop

Thanks for stopping by! Please make sure you hit all the stops–lots and lots of fabulous giveaways!

I wanted to share a little history about the Christmas tree. There are some really interesting traditions associated with evergreens. I think I’ll let my 1Night Stand heroes explain:

First up is Darius, from Senator, Mine  (set in Ancient Rome):

We celebrate winter solstice here in Rome. Lots of feasting, dancing, and general partying. We call the holiday Saturnalia and we even give gifts like coins, lamps, and baked sweets! We also decorate our houses with greens, and we use lots of lamps to symbolize coming out of the darkness.

Next, Carrick, from Druid, Mine (set in Ireland during the later times of Druids):

We also celebrate the winter solstice with rituals and dancing. Fire is a symbol of life to us, and we use it in most of our rituals, along with herbs and trees. We especially like to use mistletoe and holly this time of year. In our homes, we bind evergreen branches above the doorways to protect us from spirits.

Lastly, here is Seti, from Pharaoh, Mine (set in Ancient Egypt):

You might be surprised to learn that we Egyptians had a similar culture of using evergreens at winter solstice. Though we don’t have the traditional pines, we use green date palm boughs in our homes. These fresh green branches symbolize life to us.

Black Friday Blog Hop with Decadent Publishing

Hi!

Thanks for stopping by my blog on the Decadent Publishing Black Friday Blog Hop!  After you are done here, please make sure you click either the button above or the link at the very end of this post so you can visit everyone else. Lots of prizes on this hop, so make sure you hit every site!

I currently have three 1Night Stand releases with Decadent Publishing. Here are the fabulous covers (all by Mina Carter):

Here are the blurbs. Please check out each of them, then vote in the poll! Info about my contest after the blurbs/poll:

First up is SENATOR, MINE:

Eleanor’s dream of a romantic tour of Italy shatters when her long-time boyfriend breaks up with her in Pompeii. Determined to enjoy the once in a lifetime vacation, she enlists the 1NS service. She continues her trip, stopping to buy a small golden signet in a mysterious antiquities shop in Rome.

Darius, a hard-working Senator in Ancient Rome, is puzzled by the Sibyl’s words: You will not find love in your lifetime. Hoping to find a measure of happiness, he agrees to the Sibyl’s quest. In the olive grove, he spots Eleanor, a barbarian wearing his stolen senator’s ring.

A night spent together may be just what they both need to break down the columns of time that stand between them.

Next is DRUID, MINE:

Anya’s wish for a normal date—away from the old man she is caretaker for—comes true in unexpected ways when she finds herself whisked to an ancient Irish stone circle on solstice eve.

Carrick’s decision to follow the path to become an Ovate druid has not come lightly, and he plans to spend the solstice eve in meditation unless fairies or evil spirits disrupt the circle. When a feisty girl walks right up to the fire, more than sparks fly.

They each seek healing and a connection, but the darkness of summer is short, and once the solstice sun breaks through the circle at dawn, the magic of the night will be over. Even Madame Eve can’t stop the day from rising.

And last is PHARAOH, MINE:

Kathryn Adams is a veterinarian with a cause—she risks her financial security to help local cat rescue groups. When a stray cat, black with one green eye and one blue, meows at her door one night, Kathryn’s view of rescues changes quickly.

In Ancient Egypt, the throne is passed to the firstborn son, and when the sun rises over his father’s fresh tomb, Seti will claim his crown. He doesn’t want to rule, but the only other option is death, and his half-brother is happy to oblige.

Seti and Kathryn each need fulfillment in their lives. Through the help of Madame Eve and an ancient Egyptian goddess, they find peace in each other’s arms for one night. At dawn, Bast will return to ferry them back to their responsibilities unless they can rescue each other.

A product of an illegal pairing, Eridani is the only woman without a lifemate aboard the colonization ship, the Heritage, and she is determined her less than perfect DNA will not get in the way of finding love. As the ship nears its final destination of Haven 6 after five hundred years of travel, images of the surface show evidence of intelligent life on a planet that’s supposed to be uninhabited. Commander Grier assigns Eri to the exploratory team to spy on the alien society and return with information on how to defeat them.
When Eri’s team lands, tribes of humans attack and Eri is saved by Striver, the descendant of a colonist and a pirate from Old Earth’s colonization efforts in other parts of the galaxy. Striver helps Eri rescue her team and they are drawn to each other despite their different allegiances. While Striver battles with trusting Eri, Eri must decide whether to warn him and his people about the commander’s intentions, or follow orders and complete her mission.

Who is the big monster in Haven 6?

If you read any of the New Dawn series, you know every book had a “big monster” that gets in the way of the main protagonists:

The zombies in A Hero Rising…

The sandworms and the desert cows in Paradise 21…

The alien mammoths in Tundra 37…

So the big question is: what’s the big monster in Haven 6!!!

Each monster is a product of their environments. The zombies came from man’s overuse of natural resources. The sandworms evolved in a desert, using the sand to navigate and prey while the desert cows used their trunks to store water. The alien mammoths evolved from an ice world and used their tentacle-like hair to grasp prey and keep them warm.

So, for Haven 6, I wanted a hairy jungle monster able to live in the swampy environment- kind of like the same planet Yoda lived on in Star Wars. This monster had to humongous, dangerous, and hairy, while at the same time make sense with the planet so it wasn’t ridiculous. It had to get in the way of my protagonists, and find a way to tie in with the story of the mysterious golden liquid. It also had to have a weak spot so they could beat it.

The monster I came up with is big and hairy all right! But, you’ll have to read Haven 6 to find out what it is!

Aubrie Dionne is an author and flutist in New England. Her writings have appeared in Mindflights, Niteblade, Silver Blade, Emerald Tales, Hazard Cat, Moon Drenched Fables, A Fly in Amber, and Aurora Wolf. Her books are published by Entangled Publishing, Lyrical Press, and Gypsy Shadow Publishing. She recently signed her YA sci fi novel with Inkspell Publishing titled: Colonization: Paradise Reclaimed, which will release in November 2012. Welcome to the 1NS blog hop!

click the button to go to the main blog hop site!

Thanks for stopping by my site on the tour! The 1NS line is dear to me–I simply love the concept of the series and the way lots of authors can add stories to the line. I’ve read a ton of the 1NS books–and they are all awesome in their own way. You can find contemporary, science fiction, time travel, western, menage, m/m — pretty much anything you want. I still have quite a few to read, but I am certainly working my way through them.

I currently have two 1NS out: Senator, Mine and Druid, Mine. I have a third releasing this fall–Pharaoh, Mine.  ALL MINE, my sub series title, ties them together. All of them are time travel and all of them include a hot man somewhere in time. I simply love exploring ancient worlds. And hot men. All. Mine.

Just for leaving a comment, I’ll give away two copies of winner’s choice of either Senator, Mine or Druid, Mine. Please leave your email address so I can contact the winners.  Okay, and just for fun, I will also give away a $20 gift certificate to Amazon to one winner who posts an answer to this question in their response: If you had to choose a moment in history–what would be your favorite time/place to read about? Be specific! Of course, I would love for you to follow my blog, and follow me on Twitter!

Everyone who comments is also entered into the grand prize drawings:

1st place – A Kindle Touch

2nd place – a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate

3rd place – a box of Goodies from Coffee Time Romance – US ONLY (books, swag and other goodies)

Make sure you click the 1NS blog hop button at the top of this post to return to the main site and follow the hop! Lots of great authors and prizes await! If you haven’t picked up a 1NS to read yet, I urge you to give one a try.

Live and Let Fly Blog Tour stop…

I’d like to welcome Karina Fabian today and introduce her book, LIVE AND LET FLY! Read on and check it out, then find you scavenger hunt clue…below…

Thanks for stopping by!

Kerry Adrienne–

For a dragon detective with a magic-slinging nun as a partner, saving the worlds gets routine. So, when the US government hires Vern and Sister Grace to recover stolen secrets for creating a new Interdimensional Gap–secrets the US would like to keep to itself, thank you—Vern sees a chance to play Dragon-Oh-Seven.

No human spy, however, ever went up against a Norse goddess determined to exploit those secrets to rescue her husband. Sigyn will move heaven and earth to get Loki—and use the best and worst of our world against anyone who tries to stop her.

It’s super-spy spoofing at its best with exotic locations (Idaho–exotic?), maniacal middle-managers, secret agent men, teen rock stars in trouble, man-eating animatronics, evil overlords and more!

If there’s such a thing as ADD of the imagination, Karina Fabian has it—in spades.  Craft books, devotionals, serious science fiction, comedic horror and chilling fantasy—she follows her interests and the characters that tell her their stories.

Even before she could write, Karina strung tall tales about everything from making human pyramids in Kindergarten to visiting alien worlds.  Her first attempt at novel writing was in fourth grade; she completed her first novel in college.  However, her first published work was an anthology of Christian science fiction, Leaps of Faith, an EPPIE finalist for best anthology in 2006.  Her next anthology, Infinite Space, Infinite God, featured Catholic characters and themes and won the EPPIE for science fiction.   The second Infinite Space, Infinite God anthology came out in 2010.

Watching the comedy improve show, Whose Line Is It, Anyway, inspired her noir-style dragon detective, Vern.  Vern and his partner, Sister Grace, have solved mysteries and saved the Faerie and Mundane worlds numerous numerous times in the DragonEye, PI stories and novels.  Their serial story, World Gathering, won a Mensa Owl; and the novel, Magic, Mensa and Mayhem (Fabian’s first published novel), won the INDIE for best fantasy in 2010. ClueGloria Quatrini shoes

Blog move.

As much as I hate to have had to do it, I have moved my blog and website. Sigh. What a pain! I am very hopeful that being here at WordPress.com will be a much more enjoyable experience than (shall remain nameless place) where I (endured months of torture) hosted my website recently.  All my previous content is lost, but I hope that my followers will find their way here eventually.

I already love the widgets here where I can share Facebook and Twitter stuff that I have envied on my author friends’ pages and I really like that I can showcase some pretty covers and even some great trailers (once I figure out how to do so…).

Apologies to those who just hopped through to my blog on the Christmas “Stuff your Stockings” blog hop–I am assured that you can still find me here, though I have lost all your lovely comments, sigh. 😦  I will make it up to you when we do the Valentine’s hop, so stick with me!

thanks!
